Wannock was a small isolated village at the foot of the South Downs when the above image was taken sometime in the early 1900’s. Nowadays the growth of Eastbourne has reached out as far as Wannock making it near enough a suburb.
The name Wannock probably refers to the Old English ‘wannoc’ meaning little dark one and probably referred to the colour of the stream which ran through Wannock.
Wannock does not have its own parish church but shares St Andrews in nearby Jevington.
